5th Annual Women's Health Workshop a Huge Success

On Thursday, February 12th, 2026 the UTMB Health Department of Family Medicine & Community Health (FMCH) hosted the 5th Annual Women's Health Workshop, a collaboration between the Award Winning Family Medicine Interest Group (FMIG) and the Obstetrics Gynecology Student Society (OGSS).

Congratulations to Drs. Yasin and Lee on securing a $10,000 foundational research grant from Texas Academy of Family Physicians to launch new acupuncture clinic in St. Vincent Hope Clinic.

Family Medicine Events

Women's Health Workshop

The UTMB Health Family Medicine Interest Group (FMIG) and the Obstetrics Gynecology Student Society (OGSS) will be hosting a Women's Health Workshop for Medical Students on Thursday, February 27th from 6:00pm-8:00pm.  The instructors will be faculty and residents from both Family Medicine and Obstetrics.  There will be 7 stations and each instructional presentation will be 10-20 minutes.  

  • Vaginal and Placenta Delivery
  • Cervical Dilation
  • IUD Insertion
  • Nexplanon Insertion
  • Speculum and Pelvic Exam
  • Breast Exam and Contraceptives 101
  • Sonosite and Doptone

Medical Student Education Program

Family medicine offers courses for undergraduate medical students throughout all four years of the medical curriculum. Family Medicine & Community Health faculty also serve as examiners in the fourth-year Integrative Curriculum Evaluation Exercise (ICEE), as advisors for both individual students and for student groups, and on various course committees. Read more...

Residency Training Program

The UTMB Health Family Medicine & Community Health Residency Program was one of the first family medicine residency programs in the state of Texas, and has trained more than 400 physicians since accepting its first residents in 1971. Butterfly Sonogram Workshop

Research Program

Research in the UTMB Health Department of Family Medicine & Community Health focuses on four broad research areas that reflect the interests of the faculty and principles of Family Medicine. Each year, one of the family medicine residency programs in the area hosts a  Regional Family Medicine Research Symposium, with presentations by residents and fellows from the Galveston-Houston area family medicine residency programs. Read more...
