On Thursday, February 29th, 2024 the UTMB Health Department of Family Medicine hosted the 3rd Annual Women's Health Workshop, a collaboration between the Award Winning Family Medicine Interest Group (FMIG) and the Obstetrics Gynecology Student Society (OGSS).

UTMB Research Project Results in an APP

Recently, UTMB released a smartphone app called “utmbHealthyBrain” to the Apple and Google Play App Stores and it is listed by the Moody Library as one of useful apps: https://guides.utmb.edu/apps. This app provides an important function – mindfulness – as a result of combining both Eastern and Western cultures.

PCP at the PCP

The Family Medicine Interest Group (FMIG) is hosting its Annual Primary Care Procedures at the Primary Care Pavilion event on Thursday, October 13, 2022. The hands-on workshop will feature faculty members and residents leading small-groups learning and practicing on a wide array of ambulatory clinical procedures. This event is sponsored by the UTMB Health Department of Family Medicine Medical Student Education Program and Jennifer Raley, MD, the Director of Medical Student Education Program and FMIG faculty advisor.

The PCP at the PCP will be held at the Primary Care Pavilion in 2.268. For more information on how to register for the event please contact Christopher Pleasant at chpleasa@utmb.edu.

Medical Student Education Program

Family medicine offers courses for undergraduate medical students throughout all four years of the medical curriculum. Family Medicine faculty also serve as examiners in the fourth-year Integrative Curriculum Evaluation Exercise (ICEE), as advisors for both individual students and for student groups, and on various course committees. Read more...

The UTMB Health Family Medicine Residency Program was one of the first family medicine residency programs in the state of Texas, and has trained more than 400 physicians since accepting its first residents in 1971. Research Program

Research in the UTMB Health Department of Family Medicine focuses on four broad research areas that reflect the interests of the faculty and principles of Family Medicine. Each year, one of the family medicine residency programs in the area hosts a  Regional Family Medicine Research Symposium, with presentations by residents and fellows from the Galveston-Houston area family medicine residency programs. Read more...
