The Department of Family Medicine at the University of Texas Medical Branch at Galveston (UTMB) is led by its chair, of more than 20 years, Dr. Barbara L. Thompson. 

Our faculty and resident physicians provide medical care to Galveston County residents through its three clinics, located on the UTMB Galveston campus, on the western end of Galveston Island, and in Dickinson, Texas, and through its inpatient service at Jennie Sealy Hospital in Galveston, Texas. Medical Student Education Program

Family medicine offers courses for undergraduate medical students throughout all four years of the medical curriculum. Family Medicine faculty also serve as examiners in the fourth-year Integrative Curriculum Evaluation Exercise (ICEE), as advisors for both individual students and for student groups, and on various course committees. The UTMB Health Family Medicine Residency Program was one of the first family medicine residency programs in the state of Texas, and has trained more than 350 physicians since accepting its first residents in 1971.
