Dr. Shafer joined the Department of Family Medicine & Community Health in 2026. He is a resident physician in training at the Family Medicine Clinic – Island East. Dr. Shafer earned his Bachelor of Business Administration in Finance from Texas Tech University in El Paso, TX. He did post-Baccalaureate studies in Medical Humanities from the University of Texas in San Antonio. He earned his Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine from University of the Incarnate Word School of Osteopathic Medicine in San Antonio, TX.
Dr. Shafer is certified in Basic Life Support (BLS), Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS), and Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS).
Dr. Shafer's academic and clinical interests are in community medicine, academic medicine, chronic disease management and mental health.
