Eladio Camarillo, MD, MPH
Resident Physician
Dr. Camarillo joined the Department of Family Medicine in 2023. He is a resident physician in training at the Family Medicine Clinic – Island East. Dr. Camarillo earned his bachelor's degree from Purdue's East Carolina University. Dr. Camarillo attended St. George's University where he completed his Master's in Public Health as well as his Doctorate of Medicine.
Dr. Camarillo is certified in Basic Life Support (BLS), Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS), and Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS).
Dr. Camarillo's academic and clinical interests include sports medicine, pain management and integrative medicine .
A PERSONAL NOTE FROM DR. CAMARILLO
My name is Eladio Camarillo. I was born and raised in the Midwest, just 20 mins outside of Chicago. Although I spent most of my life in Chicago, I have always longed to live near the ocean. As such, after many long, hard Chicago winters, I promised myself that I would move to a warm and tropical area. This promise has led me to the tropical island of Grenada, the numerous beaches of Miami, and now here, the beautiful and unique seawall of Galveston! Although Galveston does not technically have a tropical climate, I am ecstatic with the fact that I will never have shovel snow again!
I have two principal areas of academic interest. One of these areas is global medicine. I have always been curious about how healthcare differs from country to country. More specifically, how universal health care differs from private health care. My medical education allowed me to experience this first-hand, as they offered an opportunity to complete some of my clinical rotations in London, UK. While in London, I was able to visit many other European countries which helped me to gain a broader understanding of how the European health care system differs from our own. I believe that understanding these differences will help to ensure that I provide my patients with equal access to health care. In fact, one of the reasons I chose to finish my training at UTMB (University of Texas Medical Branch) is because of the diverse patient population located in Galveston and the surrounding area.
My other area of intertest lies in sports medicine. In fact, my first bachelor’s degree was in exercise physiology and fitness management. I am a firm believer that exercise and nutrition are the keys to a long, healthy life. This belief is supported by the fact that the number one cause of death in the US is heart disease; a disease that is directly affected by exercise and nutrition! As such, exercise and nutrition are the foundations for every patient treatment plan.
My interests outside of medicine include; bodybuilding competitions (I just earned my professional status as a men’s physique competitor), virtual reality, (it is my childhood dream come true to be inside of a video game), and cooking (my protein pancakes are legendary!).
