Events like the PCP at the PCP are one of the reasons the Family Medicine Interest Group (FMIG) and The Department of Family Medicine at UTMB Health have won Program of Excellence Awards by both the AAFP and TAFP for the past 6 years. The Family Medicine Faculty advisor to UTMB's FMIG is Dr. Jennifer Raley, Director of the Medical Student Education Program in the Department of Family Medicine.
This years event was held in Galveston, on Thursday, October 10th from 5:30-7:30 at The Primary Care Pavilion. With 56 Year 1 and 2 medical students in attendance, our FMIG officers, family medicine faculty, residents and staff offered the future doctors of tomorrow a window into the scope of family medicine as a practice and a first hand glimpse into our department. The goal of events like this is to share our discipline to inspire more medical students go into family medicine residencies, creating more family doctors which is critical for every community's primary care needs.
