Annual PCP at the PCP Postponed until Spring 2022

The Family Medicine Interest Group (FMIG) and the Department of Family Medicine hosts the Annual Primary Care Procedures at the Primary Care Pavilion workshop each fall. Unfortunately, this year the event has been postponed to Spring, most likely it will return in March.

The Medical Student Education program cites ongoing institutional in-person meeting restrictions as the main reason for this postponement.  "This award-winning event is successful because of its face-to-face instruction and hands-on practice of many primary care procedures for medical students. We just can't get enough learners and instructor in the same room to make it a successful event.  Hopefully, by spring, some of the restrictions due to the ongoing pandemic will be lifted.  This type of workshop just does not lend itself to a virtual environment.  We have tried doing it virtually, it is just not the same", says Shannon Samuelson, the medical education program manager.

The hands-on workshop will return in  2022 and will feature faculty members and residents leading small groups learning and practicing on a wide array of ambulatory clinical procedures. This event is sponsored by the UTMB Health Department of Family Medicine Medical Student Education Program and Jennifer Raley, MD, a faculty member in the department and FMIG faculty advisor.
