Samuel Mathis Joins Family Medicine Faculty

Samuel Mathis, MDThe UTMB Health Department of Family Medicine is pleased to announce that Samuel Mathis, MD will be promoted to Assistant Professor following his completion of the UTMB Health Integrative and Behavioral Medicine Fellowship in June 2018.

He will continue to practice at Family Medicine Clinic – Island East and will join the Medical Student Education Program, and continue to serve as course director for the Public Health Interdisciplinary Ambulatory Community Selective at St. Vincent's Clinic (FAMU-4059).

Dr. Mathis earned a Bachelor of Arts from Baylor University and Medical Doctorate from the University of Texas Medical Branch at Galveston. He completed his training with the Memorial Family Medicine Residency Program in Sugar Land, Texas. As part of his fellowship, he is completing the Helms Medical Institute's Medical Acupuncture for Physicians, a 300-hour course that qualifies him to sit for the American Board of Medical Acupuncture's certification examination.

Dr. Mathis served on the Board of Directors of the Texas Academy of Family Physicians' Section on Resident Physicians. He has a strong record of community service, and while a student at UTMB Health worked with several local organizations, including the St. Vincent's Student-Run Free Clinic
