UTMB Health Family Medicine Attends STFM in Austin

Feb 5, 2018, 12:43 PM by Julia Essex

UTMB Health Family Medicine faculty, staff, and students attended the Society of Teachers of Family Medicine (STFM) Medical Student Education Conference this year in Austin, TX, February 1 - 4, 2018.  UTMB was well represented with a total of six presentations and one poster.

All UTMB presentations were well received but there were two notable projects that far surpassed expectations.  The first was a quality improvement poster titled “Empowering Students to Implement Change in Primary Care: A Student-Driven Quality Improvement Project Experience” presented by Carolyn Coyle, MS, and Dr. Jennifer Raley, it received a blue ribbon for special recognition from the judges.

The second was a presentation titled “From the Millennials' Mouth–Reframing Family Medicine!” presented by Carolyn Coyle, MS4, Edward Strecker, MS3, Marysuna Wilkerson, MS3, and Dr. Jennifer Raley.  This presentation was very well attended with over 80 people in the audience – every seat was taken and people lined the walls and sat on the floor.  The Department of Family Medicine is so proud of each of the faculty who presented and especially the students who exceeded their expectations around every turn.

Congratulations to all our presenters and staff who made this an honored and memorable STFM Conference. A complete list of presentations is below.
