On Saturday May 20, 2017, the University of Texas Medical Branch Department of Family Medicine hosted the First Annual Regional Family Medicine Residency Research Symposium.  The symposium showcased the research activities of family medicine residents and fellows from programs in the Galveston-Houston metro area.

The five participating programs presented total of 31 posters and 10 oral presentations. Robert L. Ferrer, MD, MPH, Professor and Vice Chair for Research in the Department of Family and Community Medicine at the University of Texas Health Science Center at San Antonio delivered a keynote talk. Alvah R. Cass, MD, SM, Professor and Vice Chair of the UTMB Health Department of Family Medicine, also presented closing remarks.

We would like to thank the faculty and residents from each of the participating programs: UTMB Health Family Medicine Residency, Baylor College of Medicine Family Medicine Residency, UT Health McGovern Medical School Family Medicine Residency Program, Houston Methodist Family Medicine Residency, and Memorial Hermann Family Medicine Residency. We would also like to thank our faculty and staff who made this event a great success, especially symposium chair Bret Howrey, PhD, and coordinators Annette Ware and Julia Essex.

We're already planning for next year so we hope to see you there! Abstracts from the 2017 symposium can be downloaded from the symposium web page. Details on next year's symposium will be announced in December 2017.
