Linda Hubbell

The UTMB Health Department of Family Medicine regrets to announce that Linda Hubbell (67) passed away on Monday, November 14, 2016 after her battle with leukemia.

Linda joined the Department of Family Medicine in 1979 as a file clerk in the department's clinic. Over the years, she served the department in many roles: clinic scheduler, programmer, information services manager, and residency program manager. Linda was the definition of a life-long learner, teaching herself whatever she needed to know to keep improving, whether it was software, a programming language, or how to manage a residency program.

She was instrumental in bringing the department into the digital age — she implemented its first email system, worked to set up its first electronic medical record, designed its first web site, and implemented New Innovations to support residency and scheduling. Linda was a team player, moving to the residency program when needed. When Hurricane Ike devastated our island and UTMB in 2008, Linda worked tirelessly with faculty to ensure that all residents continued their training throughout the crisis and completed their training on time.

Up until her sick leave and retirement in 2015, Linda continued to bring her rational viewpoint and deep understanding of the department's mission to the management of the department. We will all miss her positive outlook, frank wit, and caring heart.

Please join the department in extending our deepest sympathies to her husband, Steve; her surviving son, Bryan Bjerke; Bryan's wife, Amanda; her grandchildren Meghan, Kory Lynn, Ryan, and Zaley; and her many siblings, nieces, nephews, and other family members.
