The Department of Family Medicine is pleased to announce that Petra Kelsey, Shawn Abreu, and Laurie Jansky are the winners of the 2016 Weldon G. Kolb, MD, Medical Student Scholarship.
The Weldon G. Kolb, MD, Medical Student Scholarship was the first scholarship created by the Texas Academy of Family Physicians (TAFP) Foundation twenty years ago and includes a cash award. The scholarship was established to honor Dr. Weldon G. Kolb, a TAFP Past President and family physician who practiced in La Marque, Texas for more than 45 years. Dr. Kolb was a graduate of The University of Texas Medical Branch at Galveston (UTMB Health) and served as president of the Galveston County Medical Society. He served as president of the TAFP Foundation for nine years.
Students selected for the scholarship must be a 3rd or 4th year medical student in good standing at UTMB Health, meet high academic standards, and have expressed an interest in pursuing a career in family medicine.
