UTMB Health Family Medicine Residency Director, Tricia Elliott, MD, is sworn in as TAFP president-elect

We are proud to announce that Tricia Elliott, MD was sworn in as the president-elect of the Texas Academy of Family Physicians (TAFP) at the 2015 Annual Session and Primary Care Summit this November.  Please see the TAFP press release below for more information.

elliott_2THE WOODLANDS, TEXAS — Tricia Elliott, MD, FAAFP, of Galveston, Texas, was sworn in as president-elect of the Texas Academy of Family Physicians during the 2015 Annual Session and Primary Care Summit in The Woodlands. Elliott assumed her duties Nov. 14 at the TAFP Business and Awards Lunch.

Elliott is the director of the University of Texas Medical Branch Family Medicine Residency Program in Galveston. She is an associate professor for UTMB’s Department of Family Medicine and formerly served the department as vice chair for clinical affairs. She previously served as program director of the Baylor College of Medicine/Kelsey-Seybold Clinic Family Medicine Residency Program in Houston.

Her medical degree was awarded by UTMB and her family medicine residency was completed at Montefiore Medical Center in Bronx, New York. She received her undergraduate education at Rice University in Houston, Texas. Elliott was the recipient of TAFP’s Special Constituency Leadership Award in 2014 and Political Action Committee Award in 2011.

She is a fellow of the American Academy of Family Physicians and a member of the AAFP Commission on Education. She is a member of the Harris County Academy of Family Physicians, the Society of Teachers in Family Medicine, the Association of Family Medicine Residency Directors, the Medical Group Management Association, and Harris County Medical Society.

Family physicians like Elliott are qualified to work in all major medical areas and trained to treat more than 90 percent of all cases they encounter. Family physicians care for patients of all ages.

During her year as TAFP president-elect, Elliott will work with other officers to lead the Academy: President Ajay Gupta, MD, of Austin; Vice President Javier “Jake” Margo, Jr., MD, of Rio Grande City; Treasurer Janet Hurley, MD, of Whitehouse; and Parliamentarian Rebecca Hart, MD, of League City.
