The UTMB Health Department of Family Medicine and the Family Medicine Interest Group (FMIG) hosted the 5th Annual Primary Care Procedures at the Primary Care Pavilion workshop (PCP2 ) for medical students on October 8, 2015 at the Primary Care Pavilion on the second floor from 5:30 pm - 8:30 pm.

Every year there is a limited number of slots for this much sought after event.  After opening the registration the slots filled up crazy fast.  We had 168 students before we knew it and had to act quickly to close the registration. The FMIG officers had the unfortunate task of having to let some students know that they were on a waiting list since the response was overwhelming our reservation system.

Students who attended the workshop were able to practice and learn proper techniques on surgical procedures, women's health procedures, dermatological procedures, orthopedic procedures and many more including the newly offered procedures of circumcision, ingrown toenail removal and Geriatric assessments. All procedure training was offered by a team of family medicine faculty along with first, second and third year family medicine residents.

Jennifer Raley, MD took the lead this year as faculty mentor to the Family Medicine Interest Group and, with the group's members and event coordinator Ryan Gates, they organized the event along with key family medicine staff members.  Dr. Raley expresses her deepest gratitude to all of the faculty, residents, staff and FMIG officers and members who made this annual event such a success.
