On April 3, 2014 the UTMB Health Family Medicine Interest Group hosted their 3rd annual suture workshop, known as the "PCP at the PCP Lite", at the Primary Care Pavilion. The event, sponsored by the Department of Family Medicine's Medical Student Education Program, was attended by over 30 medical students who learned suturing (stitching and knot tying) techniques and practiced under the supervision of Family Medicine Physicians and Residents.

The Family Medicine faculty physicians on hand were Drs. Juliet McKee, Tuere Coulter, Victor Sierpina, Myers Hurt and Kyu Kim Jana.  The resident physicians assisting medical students were Drs. Karen Welch, Mohamed Osama and Anna Lucia Siu.  The FMIG student leaders for the evening were Carah Howe, MS4, Yolan Shaw, MS4 and Anthony Ng, MS2.  The FMIG would like to thank the support staff of Family Medicine who help facilitate the workshop - Diedra Walters, Shirley Pearson and Darren Burns.

The Family Medicine Interest Group is an interest group for medical students at UTMB Health who are interested in Family Medicine. If you are interested in participating, please visit their page on Facebook for more information or contact the Department of Family Medicine Medical Student Education program.

The FMIG will be hosting a Seniors Appreciation Dinner on May 1, 2014 where they will also announce the new officers for the 2014-2015 academic year.  This new slate of officers will host a number of events later in 2014.  Dates for the annual Strolling Through the Match (July), a UTMB Health residency fair (September) and the 4th Annual Primary Care Procedures Workshop – PCP2 (October) will be announced closer to the end of this academic year.  Check back for more details.
