The Department of Family Medicine awarded a number of scholarships to the 2013 graduates of the UTMB Health School of Medicine.
The Bennie O. White, MD and Irene C. White Scholarship was awarded to Jonathan W. Coppin. Winners of this award demonstrate a superior academic aptitude, have completed their third year of medical school, and have declared an interest in family medicine. This award was established by the family and friends of Bennie O. “Pappy” and Irene C. “Mimi” White for a scholarship for medical students.
The W.D. and Laura Nell Nicholson Award in Family Medicine was awarded to Christopher Duel and Christine G. Horstmeyer. Winners of this award have completed their third year of medical school, have expressed an interest in family medicine as a career, and generally have demonstrated academic excellence. This award was established by Clark Vetterling and Dr. Dan Nicholson, W.D. Nicholson’s son.
The Weldon G. Kolb, MD Scholarship was awarded to Rachel A. Marinch, Mariama A. Massaquoi, and James K. Writer. Winners of this award who plan to go on to family medicine residencies or to practice family medicine. This award was established by the Texas Academic of Family Physicians (TAFP) in honor of a past president of TAFP, Weldon G. Kolb, who practiced in La Marque, Texas, for more than 45 years.
The Claire Donovan Medical Education Scholarship was awarded to Christopher Duel.
