On Saturday April 14 the Department of Family Medicine faculty, staff, residents and medical students gave lectures to educate kids on the importance of bicycle safety and gave away safety helmets to 250 lucky kids as part of the Texas Medical Associations Hard Hats for Little Heads campaign.  In addition, over 500 environmentally-conscious grocery totes were given out as part of reaching out to  the community and informing them about their "Family of Family Medicine Clinics" and educating the public on all that a family physician can do for them and their family.

The event was a huge success and it was nice to see so many happy children and families enjoying what turned out to be a beautiful, fun-filled day of activities.

Funding for TMA's Hard Hats for Little Heads provided by the Texas Medical Association Foundation thanks to top donors - Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Texas, Prudential, and an anonymous foundation - and gifts from physicians and their families. The Texas Academy of Family Physicians has joined with TMA in this effort to promote safety and exercise. Local support offered by Dr. Hanan Hussein and UTMB's Department of Family Medicine.
