The Department of Family Medicine would like to congratulate its employees, and the employees of its administrative service group, who were honored for their milestone anniversaries at this year's UTMB Health Employee Service Day. Ten Family Medicine employees received service pins at the ceremony held March 22, 2012 in Levin Hall.

Dr. Alice Anne O'Donell was honored at the ceremony for her impressive 45 years of service. Dr. O'Donell came to UTMB Health in 1964 to complete her pediatric internship and residency. She joined the faculty in 1969, and was the second faculty member of the newly formed Department of Family Medicine in 1971. She has served the Department as residency director, medical student education director, and as acting chair from 1988-1990.
Dr. Barbara Thompson also reached a significant milestone this year, having been at UTMB Health for 40 years. Dr. Thompson came to UTMB Health in 1971 as a medical student and following graduation returned in 1971 to be a member of the first class of the newly founded Family Medicine Residency Program. Dr. Thompson joined the faculty of the new Department of Family Medicine in 1974. She has served the department as medical student education director and residency first year director. More recently she has served UTMB Health as the Assistant Dean for Faculty Practice and Medical Director of the UTMB Hospital Clinics and Community-based Clinics. She currently serves as Professor and Chair of the Department of Family Medicine.
Diedra Walters reached a significant milestone this year, having been at UTMB Health for 25 years. Ms. Walters came to UTMB Health in 1987 to join the Department of Microbiology. She spent several years in Microbiology, and 5 years in the Department of Internal Medicine before joining the Department of Family Medicine in 1997. Since coming Family Medicine Diedra has work on developing and implementing several innovative educational programs. Ms. Walters currently serves the Department as the manager of Medical Student Education.
