Thank You Students!

On Thursday, September 15th, 2011, over 100 medical students filled the primary care pavilion for hands on training sessions and interactive workshops with the Family Medicine Faculty and Residents.  This event was sponsored by Dr. Julie McKee, the Family Medicine Interest Group and the UTMB American Medical Association (AMA/TMA).  The event was supported by Dr. Lauree Thomas, Associate Dean for Student Affairs and Admissions, Dr. Victor Sierpina and the Family Medicine Medical Student Education Program and an Ethicon Educational Grant.

The students experienced suturing with Drs. Kyu Kim Jana and Evan Underwood, splinting with Drs. Jose Rodriguez and Saquib Ansari, joint Injections with Dr. Saleh Elsaid, colposcopy with Drs. Jennifer Raley and Myers Hurt, endometrial biopsies with Drs. Hanan Hussein and Branka Kosarac, maternity care with Drs. Alvah Cass and Jose Perez-Enriquez and dermatology procedures with Drs. Victor Sierpina, Rechelle Asirot and Hammad Qureshi.

The evening was a big success and everyone had a lot of fun.  In addition to the great training, the students enjoyed good food, door prizes and one lucky student was the ticket holder of a new iPad2.

We would also like to thank the people behind the scenes that made the procedures workshop come to life.  Big thank you's to FMIG students Rachel Marinch, Matt Carpenter, Serah Obayangban, Nam Nguyen and Christine Horstmeyer. Also staff members Diedra Walters, Shirley Pearson, Layne Dearman, Cassi Boatwright, Linda Hubbell, Louis Johnston and Darren Burns for all their hard work in making this such a great evening.
