Laura Porterfield, MD, MPH
Associate Professor
Dr. Porterfield joined UTMB Health's Department of Family Medicine in
    August of 2014. She is an Associate Professor of Family
    Medicine and served the department as Vice Chair of Clinical Operations until September of 2025.
Dr. Porterfield earned a Doctor of Medicine at Baylor College of
    Medicine, and completed a residency with the UTMB Health Family Medicine
    Residency Program with a concentration in Behavioral Medicine.  In 2023, Dr. Porterfield completed her Master's in Public Health from the University of North Texas Health Science Center in Fort Worth, Texas.  
Dr. Porterfield has lived all over the world, from Latin America to
    parts of Asia, and her interests include tropical medicine,
    international health, holistic care, behavioral and integrative
    medicine, women’s health, and preventative medicine.  Dr. Porterfield
    chose family medicine because she enjoys the challenge of caring for
    people across the full spectrum of life-stages with their various health
    needs and because she believes in the importance in caring for the
    whole person, whole families, and whole communities.
