Rakel\, MD as he gives a Grand Rounds lecture entitled "The Clinician Effect: How You Trump Pills". \nDr. Rakel is currently an associ ate professor in the Department of Family Medicine at the University of Wi sconsin (UW) School of Medicine and Public Health. \;He is also the fo under and director of its \;Integrative Medicine Program. Dr. Rakel is editor of one of the premier texts in this field\, \;Integrative Medi cine\, now in its third edition. He is also the co-editor of the \;Tex tbook of Family Medicine \;and editor-in-chief of \;Primary Care P ractice Update. \;\nDr. Rakel has received NIH funding to study the "c linical effect" and to incorporate healing modalities into medical school curricula. His team was awarded a contract by the Veteran's Health Adminis tration to educate VA clinicians across the country toward a "Personalized \, Proactive\, and Patient-Driven" cultural shift in health care delivery.  \;He enjoys exploring complex systems and developing insight into how each can find a path towards health. \;\nDr. Rakel serves as one of 5 mentors for the UW School of Medicine and Public Health student body. &nb sp\;He has been awarded a number of teaching awards including the Baldwin E. Lloyd clinical teacher award\, the UW Department of Family Medicine fac ulty excellence award\, the Marc Hansen lecture award and the resident tea cher-of-the-year award. \;\nDr. Rakel started his career near the Teto n Mountains in Driggs\, Idaho\, where he was in rural private practice for five years before completing a two-year residential fellowship in integra tive medicine at the University of Arizona Health Sciences Center. \;H e is board-certified in family and integrative medicine\, has \;a cert ificate of added qualification in sports medicine\, and is certified in in teractive guided imagery.\nThis educational forum is supported by the Marc el and Josephine Patterson Memorial Lectureship in Family Medicine\, and t he Jesse B.
