A Personal Note from Dr. Payne

I am a Houstonian from a family of native Texans. I earned a Bachelors in Mathematics in 3 years from Stephen F. Austin State University. I am blessed and honored to be a graduate from UTMB’s School of Medicine, and to continue my training as a Family Medicine Physician at UTMB. UTMB has a unique blend of patient-centered care, academic rigor, research prowess, and laid-back island personalities.

Family medicine provides the perfect amount of variety to keep me learning more daily. Family physicians have a unique role in becoming part of the community and caring for all patients, ranging from newborn to geriatrics. My primary aim is to improve the quality of life of my patients through fostering a healthy lifestyle and encouraging preventative screenings, thus stopping diseases before they start. I believe all patients are truly capable of improving their quality of life and reaching their own health goals.

As a native Texan, I have a special love of the unique history of Galveston and its plentiful wildlife. In my leisure time, I enjoy birdwatching, fishing, shelling, and attending the various festivals on the island. My main life goal is to visit all the National Parks in the United States. I have already visited over-half of the 58 parks.

In my future practice, I plan to remain along the Texas Coast. I ultimately want to become a part of the community and help shape people's lives for better health.
