A Personal Note from Dr. Chavez

I am humbled by the amount of knowledge I have acquired since starting medical school, and am
even more humbled knowing that I have only scratched the surface. My initial interest in medicine came
from my interest in fitness, nutrition and wellness which are a cornerstone of primary care. Everyday I
learn more about the human body, and remain in constant awe of its elegant complexity and how, in a
healthy person, all its systems and subsystems seamlessly interact to enable existence and function!

Having a broad view of medicine and a patient’s total needs is very important to me and I pursued
Family Medicine because practitioners care for patients across a broad range of routine, acute and
chronic conditions, and treat patients over a long horizon!

I ultimately chose to continue my medical education at UTMB due to the breadth of clinical
exposure, skills training, and experience necessary to become an accomplished Family Medicine
practitioner in both urban and rural settings. Equally important to me, was its culture of excellence, peer
support, and dedication to patient advocacy!

While I endeavor daily to become the most complete general practitioner that I can possibly be,
my true passion lies in wellness and sports medicine. With empathy, compassion, and dedication, I hope to become an outstanding physician and develop a masterful understanding of the human body.
