A Personal Note from Dr. Pierre

I grew up in Austin, Texas and later moved to the small suburb of Hutto, Texas to finish high school. My father is from the country of Haiti, and my mother is from a small town in Central Texas. Haiti was a former French colony.  Unfortunately, as much I would really like to speak French, my language skills in that direction are minimal. My culture and experiences led me to be highly interested in global medicine, and public health.  Hearing, seeing, and experiencing underserved areas has always inspired me to place a personal stake in these communities.

I attended medical school at UTMB, and thoroughly enjoyed my experience. Throughout my time in medical school the strong point of my education was always the faculty and the community that supports UTMB.  As I was going through my various rotations in Austin and Galveston, Family Medicine drew me in as a field where I could be a central part of a community.  As I was looking for my residency home, what drew me and keeps me happy at UTMB is still the same faculty and community that I grew to love in medical school.   UTMB supports the kind of faculty that continue to push and nurture my own interests, and a community that always appreciates family medicine and what we do for Galveston and the surrounding areas.

In the future I hope to see myself transition my training to a future career that combines my interests in public health and global health with my desire to be a strong local medical figure in my community.

In my free time, I enjoy traveling, sports, and family, interspersed with my intermittent attempts at culinary greatness.
