A Personal Note from Dr. Nicanord

I was born in a rural community in Haiti where primary care was lacking and most people resorted to home remedies. Consequently, many people including some close family members died prematurely. As I reminisce on my childhood ailments, I am grateful for my mother using her good judgment to take me to a medical doctor. I saw firsthand what an incredible impact modern medicine could have, and the desire to be a part of this impact stuck with me ever since.

During my undergraduate and medical studies, I had the privilege to be part of a couple student-run humanitarian relief organizations where I learned about the importance of global service. I was able to serve in many projects in more than a dozen cities in the US and half a dozen cities overseas. I enjoyed the time I spent traveling, learning about new cultures, and helping people in need.

Now I am grateful for this outstanding opportunity I have here at UTMB Health's Family Medicine Program to further my medical training and I am looking forward to getting to know the Galveston community.
