A Personal Note from Dr. Phillips

I grew up in Southern California and studied business in San Diego, but in recent years have come to call Texas my home. My travels all over the world led me to experience many different adventures in Central and South America where I became fluent in Spanish.  I later graduated from medical school in the Dominican Republic and thoroughly enjoyed living, working and studying in the Latin culture and consider my now being in southern Texas to be a natural extension of that experience.

While in medical school, I was exposed to different specialties, covering the full spectrum of medicine, and found that family medicine most closely matched my expectations of what a physician really is-- a caring professional who likes to work with people, work with families, and be a positive influence on his/her patients helping them make meaningful choices to better their lives.  Family medicine enables me to do this and much more since I particularly like the variety and diversity that it offers...from children to adolescence to adults - the exposure and opportunity of seeing it all.

I am particularly interested in preventative and integrative medicine, learning how to implement treatments and alternative processes that add to a complete package of care for patients and their families.

I chose the family medicine program at the University of Texas in Galveston because of its long history of academic excellence and its reputation in Texas. I especially like the behavioral science component of the curriculum, and most importantly, its assembly of an incredible group of attending physicians, teachers, advisors, and staff.

I feel very blessed and honored to be a part of the UTMB family, supported by everyone who helps to make the experience here enjoyable and at the same time a great learning experience. I now call Galveston my home.  I love everything...."Texas".

Beyond the realm of medicine, my personal hobbies include motorcycle riding, searching for lost Spanish treasure shipwrecks, scuba diving, skydiving, helicopter piloting and photography.
