A Personal Note from Dr. Jan
I grew up in a suburb of Houston called Sugar Land where I went to elementary school, middle school, and high school. After graduating from the University of Houston in 2007, I made a strategic decision to go to medical school at Ross University, through which I was able to travel and live in different cities and be exposed to different parts of the country as well as neighboring countries. My clinical clerkships gave me the opportunity to move all over the country, particularly the east coast, where I was exposed to many variances of regional culture, which in the long run allowed me to be a well-rounded person and bring my experiences with me to UTMB.
When applying for residency, my main goal was to move back to the area so I could be close to my family and live in a place I am familiar with, which is what drew me to UTMB. The Family Medicine department provides a depth of knowledge, cultural sensitivity, integrative medicine, excellent training, enthusiastic faculty, and exceptional facilities, which makes it ideal for residency. Galveston Island is a unique niche that has its own colloquial charm. Its close proximity to one of the largest cities in the US sets it apart from many other places, and makes it a great place to be. Personally, I enjoy leisure reading, movies, music, traveling, spending time with family, and food. I am very pleased to be part of the UTMB Family Medicine residency and I look forward to becoming a practicing physician in the area in the future.
