Practice Management

Practice Management

Practice management knowledge and skills are essential for any physician to be prepared for future practice. The family physician should be able to lead, contribute, and continuously improve the care delivery within his or her future practice. This includes organization, administration, communication, marketing, compliance with external regulatory agencies and accreditation requirements, medicolegal issues, and ethical adherence to the highest standards of care.

All UTMB Health Family Medicine residents participate in seminars, lectures and a two-week rotation to develop practice management skills. They will consult with coding and billing specialists, complete individual projects, and participate in workshops on developing a curriculum vita, interviewing, and negotiating contracts. They will learn about measurement methods for physician productivity and common benchmarking data sources, as well as service reimbursement.

Residents develop personalized training experiences with our faculty or with our wide network physicians, healthcare managers and administrators.
