Research
The primary purpose of the Research Program is to facilitate the conduct of clinical
and educational research that will advance the discipline of Family Medicine. To fulfill this
purpose, the support personnel of the Research Program:
- Assist faculty with development and conduct of clinical and educational research projects
- Maintain research files and data consistent with the required levels of security
- Identify potential funding sources for research projects
- Assist in the preparation of grant proposals and research manuscripts
- Facilitate collaboration within the department, the institution, and across institutions
Goals
The goals of the Research Program are to:
- Engage in high-quality research and other scholarly activities that will improve patient care
and health-related outcomes and enhance the educational experiences and outcomes in the context of Family Medicine
- Improve the status and reputation of the Department of Family Medicine within the institution and among
family medicine departments across the country
- Successfully compete for extra-mural funds sufficient to off-set at least 50% of the research budget
Objectives
To achieve these goals we established four specific objectives:
- Expand and improve the department's research infrastructure by reorganizing the research services within the Research Program
- Increase the number of faculty involved in research by developing and implementing a process that provides protected
time to focus on research
- Promote collaboration and enhance productivity by establishing research teams with focused research agendas
- Develop and implement a web-based communication system to disseminate information about our research program
