Residency Program History "Old Red" Ashbel Smith Building
The Residency Program at The University of Texas Medical Branch at Galveston (UTMB) was established in 1971. The Residency Program is fully accredited by the Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education. It is a three-year program that allows graduates to sit for board certification by the American Board of Family Practice. Eight positions are offered per year. Goal The primary goal of the program is to prepare residents for successful careers as family physicians. The curriculum is innovative and forward thinking, but grounded in the traditional precepts of family medicine: continuity of care, comprehensive care, longitudinal care, contextual and community based care, and commitment to the patient.
