Residency Program Announces New Accreditation from AOA
At its November 2, 2006 meeting, the American Osteopathic Association's Program and Trainee Review Council granted approval of the new Internship training program at UTMB-Galveston Department of Family Medicine. This is a very important event that bestows upon our program the distinction of dual accrediation. Medical students in Osteopathic schools are encouraged to contact us for further information about entering residency here. And, congratulations to program director, Lisa Nash, D.O., for her preserverance in making this accomplishment happen. |
UTMB Family Medicine Chosen for Pilot Project
UTMB Family Medicine is one of seven residencies nationwide to be selected for partnership with the University of Arizona's Integrative Medicine in Residency (IMR). This pilot project will be launched in July 2008. It is the first program of its kind, providing in-depth integrative medical education to residents.
Integrative Medicine in Residency is a competency-based curriculum in integrative medicine that can be incorporated into the typical three-year residency program. Residents will learn how to incorporate IM concepts into practice, including lifestyle changes, appropriately integrating mind-body, botanical, nutrition and physical activity into their practices. The program will follow ACGME guidelines.
The other six residencies chosen to take part in this project are: The University of Arizona, Tucson; Beth Israel, New York; Carolina's Medical Center, Charlotte, North Carolina; Maine Medical Center, Portland, Maine; Maine-Dartmouth, Augusta, Maine; and Hennepin County Medical Center, Minneapolis, Minnesota.
