Another Great Primary Care Procedures Workshop

Oct 25, 2018
The UTMB Health Family Medicine Interest Group (FMIG) hosted the 8th Annual Primary Care Procedures at the Primary Care Pavilion (PCP2) Thursday, October 11th from 5:30 until 8:30pm. Over 90 medical students, ranging from MS1 to MS4, gathered to gain clinical procedure experience with The Department of  Family Medicine faculty, residents and staff. This hands-on workshop allows medical students to learn and practice many procedures, including splinting, endometrial biopsies, dermatology procedures, child birth, circumcision, suturing and knot tying, joint injections, and colposcopies.

This annual event was created to teach and share with medical students the full scope of the practice of family medicine.  It's an opportunity to give a glimpse of the possible procedures that a family physician may perform regularly as part of his or her day practice.

This fun filled evening also included dinner and drawings for prizes, complete with a grand prize of an iPad Mini.

This annual PCP2 event is coordinated by the Family Medicine Interest Group, which is advised Dr. Jennifer Raley, a faculty member in the Department of Family Medicine. If you didn't get to experience this year's workshop, look out for one of FMIG's other workshops in the spring or the next Primary Care Procedures workshop next October.
