Andrea Link, MD to Present Family Medicine Grand Rounds

Andrea Link, MDAndrea Link, MD, a Clinical Assistant Professor with the Department of Family and Community Medicine at Baylor College of Medicine, will be the guest lecturer during UTMB Health's Department of Family Medicine Grand Rounds on September 15, 2016. Dr. Link will discuss the identification of human trafficking victims in the primary care setting.

Dr. Link attended medical school and completed her residency training in pediatrics at the Stanford University School of Medicine in Stanford, California. She then spent several years as a pediatrician at Texas Children's Hospital in Houston, Texas before shifting her interests. She spent three years on the Jail Inreach Project with Healthcare for the Homeless Houston.

During this experience Dr. Link worked with incarcerated women at the Harris County Jail, many of whom are victims of human trafficking. She developed the "Health and Whole" program, which serves as an innovative and multimodal program to help women who are recovering from prostitution and human trafficking to transition out of prostitution and out of the cycle of homelessness, incarceration, and prostitution. The program is a collaboration between Healthcare for the Homeless Houston and Angela House, and includes wellness, health education, healing through the arts, peer support, employment counseling, and psycho-educational programming. Many of the services are provided by students in medicine, pharmacy, and social work.

Dr. Link also conducts research the psychosocial and medical issues related to street-level prostitution.
